This ghoulish skull smiles out from the high Gothic architecture of downtown Amsterdam. Given that it was accompanied by other escutcheons illustrated with hand bones and leg bones, I suspect the building was home to the famous anatomical department immortalised by Rembrandt’s painting, which is housed a few metres away in the Rijksmuseum.
This listing is for one solid pine wood photo block typically described as 6×6, though the milled size puts it closer to 5.5 inches square. It is just shy of 1 inch deep. The toner print is applied and revealed by hand, and is drawn from my personal photography. The back of the piece is titled, signed and dated in ink. You will receive the print shown in this listing’s photographs.
The block is sold without any hanging hardware. I recommend mounting it with Command Strips, or standing it upright on a desk, shelf or mantelpiece – it will stand on any flat surface. Note that the wood will deepen into a honey colour with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight (I think this makes the wood look nicer!)
